KCPD CARE Team

“Backs the Badge”

"If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded." ~ Maya Angelou

The KCPD CARE Team is a non-profit 501c3 organization comprised of both sworn and non-sworn members of the KC Police Department. The CARE Team raises money for our department members and retirees who need assistance due to an injury, death, illness, or other unforeseen emergencies. There are absolutely zero administrative costs associated with the CARE Team – 100% of the funds raised go back to helping our members.

    Backing the Badge

Around the clock hours, changing days off, excessive overtime, stress and dealing with people and situations at the worst of times, causes unique and different challenges for law enforcement personnel. The volunteers of the Kansas City Police Department CARE Team off services to help members of the police family deal with these challenges.

"During the years I have served as a KCPD Chaplain, I have also been involved with the CARE Team and am amazed by the number of people whose lives have been touched through it. The CARE Team does a wonderful job of helping department members in difficult times. One of the things that have especially impressed me is that it is not just about giving people money - there are a lot of people who give of their time (many, many hours) and abilities to help others. It's not just a name; there really is a team of people who care." ~KCPD Chaplain, Pastor Dennis Dewey

"For the last eight years of my wifes life, she battled a rare form of cancer. Throughout those years she had both good and bad times. As you can imagine, along with fighting cancer comes a lot of expenses. The CARE Team helped my family and I through some of our financial burdens and I don't know how I would have made it through a lot of the struggles without them. They are not there to be a "hand out" but to help people keep moving along. They are not only there to help out financially, but in any way they can for all types of crisis or emergencies. The word "CARE" in CARE Team is so appropriate, because they all truly do care about helping all members of the Police Department. The members of the CARE Team are a woderful group of people whose goal is simply to help others out in a time of need. We are all very fortunate to have them in our corner!!!" ~ Joe Malena
